Our Limiting Beliefs Create Our Lives

Did you know your subconscious mind is programmed from the moment you're born until you're about 7 years old? After that, everything we hear BACKS UP THAT PROGRAMMING. We sort everything we hear and see into a sort of filing cabinet of beliefs in our brain.

What does this mean? It means we don't create new beliefs as we get older (unless we do the work) we simply enhance ones from our childhood. For example, you may have heard your parents say money is the root of all evil or that wanting more money is greedy and bad. You might not even REMEMBER hearing this. But youre subconscious mind picked it up. And then as you got older, maybe you watched your parents argue about finances. Maybe you heard people complain about rich people on TV. Your mind is catching on to these negatives comments people are saying and backing up that initial belief you had from when you were young. Now, as an adult, you're struggling with finances, can't seem to make more than a certain amount and don't know why. Well, it's because you have all this evidence in your brain backing up this (UNTRUE) belief that money is bad.

Maybe as a child you saw people around you always struggling to lose weight. You watched your mom, siblings, adults around you always talking about dieting and how hard it was to stay in shape. As you got older, you saw tabloids that shamed celebrities that gained weight. You saw countless magazines advertising and "how to get fit fast" or "avoid these foods to limit calories" as if it was impossible to make healthy choices on your own. Now, as an adult, you find that you have zero confidence in your body and are overwhelmed by the health and fitness industry. Well, again, you were just a kid when you first saw or heard these things, and your brain picked up on more and more evidence.

Soooo what do we do?

Well, first things first, this is no ones FAULT. It's not anyone else's fault that they said something that became your belief. It's no one's fault they had those beliefs as well. Everyone is just doing the best they can with their own programming!

What we need to do is figure out those beliefs and REWORK them. And here's a quick blueprint of how:

  1. Identify areas you feel that you're struggling with (love, fitness, finance)

  2. What beliefs do you have around those areas?

    1. What evidence do you have for those beliefs?

  3. What beliefs do you WANT to have?

This next step is a BIG one here... FIND EVIDENCE FOR THE BELIEFS YOU WANT TO HAVE. And I PROMISE you, there are just as many points of evidence for the beliefs you HAD as there are for the beliefs you WANT.

I heard this from Tony Robbins once: imagine a table with legs; the tabletop represents the belief, and the legs symbolize the experiences or "evidence" that support and hold up that belief. So what we are doing here, is breaking down those legs, and building new ones to support the table!

Try this out for EVERY LIMITING BELIEF you have. The more evidence you have to back up this new belief, the stronger it will be. The 7 year old in you will have no chance to run your world anymore.
