The definition of manifestation is not exact. That is why I love it so much; there is so much that is left UP TO YOU. If you search the definition of manifestation  online, you get numerous definitions that all relate in some way:

  • “an event, action, or object that clearly shows or embodies something, especially a theory or an abstract idea.”

  • “transforming ideas and desires into reality.”

  • “to make something happen by imagining.”

  • “an event, action or thing that is a sign that something exists or is happening.”

It’s not the same as searching for the definition of a car: “a motor vehicle with wheels.”

Gwagon

My own personal definition of manifestation is “the act of achieving or gaining something you desire through taking actions that align with your purpose.” Beautiful, right? But what the hell does that actually mean? Let's break it down.

First, you want something, you have a goal, a vision. Maybe you want a new car or a new designer tote. Maybe you want to achieve a certain level of fitness or have a dream salary. Pretty easy and everyone can come up with that.

The next part of this definition is “taking actions.” This is where misconceptions with manifestation come in because people think ‘oh, I’ll just think positively and it’ll happen.’ Yes and no. The Law of Attraction states that you will attract into your life whatever you focus on. So there is truth in that when we focus on good, positive energy, we will bring more of that into our lives or when we focus on everything going wrong, more things go wrong. Because the things we want to manifest are likely going to add more good energy to us, we can much more easily attract them in.

However, if we just keep thinking about our dream car, it’s PROBABLY not going to show up in our driveway tomorrow. So, we still need to TAKE ACTIONS to get it. We need to research car dealerships, we need to know which model car we want, we need to make and save more money. Some people might then say ‘ok but that’s not manifestation, that’s just working for it.’ Which brings us to the last part of my definition: ‘align with your purpose.’ We can grind for the things we want, absolutely. But do we really want that? Do we really want to hustle and grind and stress and lose sleep over work so that one day we can buy our dream car?

When you take actions that align with things you’re passionate about, things you love and enjoy, then it feels less like work and more like life. I am more than happy to put in the hours and write up blogs and scripts and programs around manifestation because I LOVE it. I switched careers a few years out of college because I honestly had no interest in the work I was doing. I followed my gut and took a pay cut. But what I got was a newfound interest in my industry, the chance to work in my favorite city and meet people that became my lifelong friends. And because I had more interest in my work, I nearly tripled my salary three years later. This is what I mean by alignment. I could’ve stayed at my last job, had a steady salary that increased maybe 1-5% year after year, that I was grinding away feeling miserable day to day and ultimately stuck.

So yes, you do have to put in the work, but the TYPE of work and the energy you have around those actions are what’s going to change your future. When you feel aligned, you have more energy, you get more excited and you WANT to do more. And based on the Law of Attraction, you’ll bring in MORE opportunities that MATCH this high frequency you’re operating in. You  get offered a promotion with a huge bonus, maybe an idea will come into your head that will open a whole new door for you, the potential is limitless.

One way or another, you can get that dream car. But do you want to get it through effort and force and the everyday grind that will only continue on after you get the car? Or do you want to build a life you love, feel like you have a choice and enjoy your day to day while driving around in your fancy new G-Wagon?

That is what manifestation is. That is the difference between creating your dream life and falling into the grind that society made us believe is the norm.
